R => Recall your hurtful experience

E => Empathise (as if a defence lawyer)

A => Altruistic gift of forgiveness

C => Commit  by writing a forgiveness letter to the person (you may never give it to them)

H => Hold on to the forgiveness


BENEFIT - it helps us to

  • move on from a hurtful experience and get rid of negative baggage which might create stress and illness over time.

Forgiving does not mean to agree with or accept for it to happen again, but it means letting it go and moving on.

We may or may not have to create a distance between us and the other person but we can still forgive and wish them well.

Wishing other people well gives us freedom to engage in something meaningful and important rather than depend on everyone's approval.
